Domaine Andre Brunel Chateauneuf du Pape "Cuvee Centenaire" 2019, 750ml
To celebrate 100 years of planting the most beautiful plot in the Domaine, located in the Farguerol sector, Lucien and André Brunel created the Cuvée Centenaire in 1989. This special cuvée comes specifically from this plot.
The soil and subsoil in this area have minimal limestone but are rich in blue, compact clay, which imparts a mineral quality (graphite) to the wine. The vines benefit from perfect sunshine and the often-blowing Mistral wind, which concentrates the sugar and aromas in the grapes. The Cuvée Centenaire is only produced in exceptional vintages, allowing the Grenache to fully express its essence.
The Grenache grapes undergo a traditional fermentation process for four weeks in concrete vats. After fermentation, the wine is aged in the same concrete vats for 18 months.
The blend consists of 95% Grenache and 5% Mourvèdre. The vines have an average age of 125 years, and the yield is 20 hl/ha. The harvest is done exclusively by hand, ensuring the highest quality grapes for this prestigious wine.
Tasting Note:
Intense nose on blackberries with a warm breath and hints of thyme. Powerful and roundness in the mouth. An impressively long finish in the mouth, the tannins are perfectly mellow. There are dominant aromas of undergrowth and leather. Complex aromas up until then uniquely reserved to wine having aged for a long period of time, are already present.
