Domaine Rapet Corton Pougets Grand Cru 2019, 750ml
The vineyard, located at 250-300 meters altitude, forms an amphitheater with a unique southern exposure. The terroir of Corton Pougets perfectly represents the Jurassic Oxford.
Les Pougets is a climat of the Corton Grand Cru appellation, although primarily known for red wines from Pinot Noir, about five percent of Corton wines are pure Chardonnay, sold as Corton Blanc.
The walled site is on the southern slopes of Montagne de Corton, reaching from the lower mid-slopes to the tree line at 335 meters. The hill is a limestone outcrop, with vines on almost every slope. The Grand Cru section sweeps from east to west.
The western side, cooler and with limestone closer to the surface, produces mostly white wines. The eastern side, warmer and richer in marlstone, is ideal for Pinot Noir.
Fermentation lasts 15 days with punch downs, allowing the wine to soak up the richness and color from the grape skins before pressing. The wine ages in 20% new oak barrels.
Tasting Note:
A deep purple color. Ample, its bouquet is expressed with fruity accents of blueberry, redcurrant, kirsch and flower aromas. Over time the aromas evolve towards sweet spices and licorice. On the palate it is a demonstrative wine, solid and opulent, but also sensual and structured with great complexity.
