Chateau de Chamirey Mercurey 1er Cru "Clos des Ruelles" Monopole Rouge 2020, 750ml
The Monopole Clos des Ruelles consists of two plots with varying exposures and vines planted between 1954 and 1980.
The vineyard faces south/south-east and features clayey limestone soil with a predominance of limestone and a high concentration of oxidized iron components.
The winemaking process starts with a 4 to 6-day cold pre-fermentation maceration to enhance phenolic extraction. The grapes are partially destemmed and undergo a 15-day maceration with punch-downs and pump-overs, using natural yeasts for fermentation.
The wine ages 100% in traditional 228-liter Burgundian barrels for 13 months, with about 30% new barrels. It then spends three months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Only French oak from Allier and Vosges forests is used.
Tasting Note:
The nose is very expressive, featuring red berries like cherries, along with spicy notes of pepper and vanilla. On the palate, there is an explosion of flavors supported by elegant tannins. The finish is long and saline.
