Pieropan Calvarino Soave Classico 2022, 750ml
The vineyard is situated on volcanic soil, rich in tuff and basalt rocks. A blend of 70% Garganega and 30% Trebbiano di Soave grapes, with vine ages ranging from 30 to 60 years. The altitude is between 95 and 145 meters above sea level, with a west exposure, yielding 60 hectoliters per hectare.
The grapes are hand-harvested, often with a double pass to select the ripest ones. Harvesting starts in mid-September for Trebbiano di Soave and in October for Garganega. After destemming and pressing, the must ferments at controlled temperatures (16°-18°C) in vitrified cement tanks called 'tulipes'.
The wine matures in these vitrified cement tanks for at least 12 to 15 months, staying in contact with fine lees and undergoing weekly bâtonnage to enhance structure and complexity. After bottling, the wine rests in glass for several months before being released.
Tasting Note:
The wine has a fresh and mineral aroma that clearly reflects its volcanic soil origins. It features a broad bouquet with floral notes of elderflower, jasmine, acacia, and narcissus, followed by aromatic herbs like sage, lemon thyme, and mint. On the palate, it offers a straightforward and vertical sip that is fresh, elegant, savory, well-balanced, long, and persistent.
