Domaine Jean Tardy Fixin "La Place" 2018, 750ml
Fixin “La Place” 2018 is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on a 0.41-hectare parcel in upper Fixin, planted in 1973. The vineyard faces east to west on a gentle slope, with silt and clay soils over limestone. Grapes are carefully destemmed, retaining 65% whole berries. Fermentation begins with a cold maceration at 10°C in stainless steel tanks, followed by indigenous yeast fermentation with minimal punch-downs. The wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels, 30% of which are new, and is racked once before bottling.
Tasting Note
On the nose it offers black cherries, bilberry and iodine on the nose, iris following soon after. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin that combine neatly with the fleshy texture, fanning out with confidence with plenty of blackcurrant and spice box towards the finish. This is a stylish Fixin and should drink nicely from one or two years in bottle.
