Domaine Rossignol-Trapet is a Burgundy estate in Gevrey-Chambertin, formed in 1990 through the union of two historic winemaking families. The Rossignols trace their roots to Volnay since the 16th century, while the Trapets settled in Gevrey-Chambertin in the 18th century. Brothers Nicolas and David Rossignol now manage the domaine, inheriting half of the Trapet family vineyards from their mother, Mado Trapet. Their cousin, Jean-Louis Trapet (of Domaine Trapet), manages the other half of the original Trapet estate.
The estate farms 14 hectares, primarily in Gevrey-Chambertin, with smaller holdings in Beaune and Savigny-lรจs-Beaune. Key vineyards include three Grand Crus: Chambertin (1.6 hectares), Latriciรจres-Chambertin (0.75 hectares), and Chapelle-Chambertin (0.5 hectares), acquired in 2001. The family also farms Premier Crus sites like Cherbaudes, Combottes, and Corbeaux in Gevrey, alongside Teurons in Beaune. Village-level wines come from plots such as รtelois (Gevrey) and Les Bas Liards (Savigny). All vineyards are planted exclusively with Pinot Noir at high density (12,000 vines/hectare).
Since 1997, the domaine has practiced biodynamic farming, certified organic by Ecocert in 2005 and biodynamic by Demeter in 2008. Synthetic chemicals are avoided, with natural treatments used to enhance soil vitality.ย
Winemaking emphasizes minimal intervention: grapes are fully destemmed, fermented at controlled temperatures (up to 32ยฐC), and undergo spontaneous malolactic fermentation.ย
Wines age 14โ18 months in oak barrels (25โ50% new), with no fining or filtration. This approach yields elegant, terroir-focused wines known for structure, finesse, and aging potential. Annual production is approximately 60,000 bottles.
Recently Allen Meadows from Burghound, declared the domaine "becoming a truly excellent domaine," highlighting its rise in quality through precise vineyard and cellar practices.
