Chateau Lagrezette 2013, 750ml
Château Lagrézette originates from a 60 hectares vineyard in the Cahors appellation, South West France. The soils are silt-clay over gravel with a Kimmeridgian limestone base. The blend is 87% Malbec, 12% Merlot, and 1% Tannat, from vines averaging 20–35 years old. Grapes are hand-harvested and manually sorted, followed by a 4–7 day cold maceration at 8°C to extract color and aromas. Alcoholic fermentation occurs at 26°C in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats and French oak foudres, with daily pump-overs and punch-downs. A final hot maceration at 28°C enhances structure. Malolactic fermentation takes place in vats and oak barrels. The wine ages for 18 months in French oak barrels (30% new, 40% one-year-old, 30% two-year-old) from Saury, François Frère, and Ermitage, then is lightly fined with egg white before bottling. made with the guidance of Michel Rolland.
Tasting Note:
The wine presents blackberry and cassis aromas with hints of vanilla and coffee from oak. On the palate, it is structured with firm tannins, balanced acidity, and flavors of black plum and spice, finishing with a touch of minerality.
