Blandy's Malmsey Vintage 1996, 750ml

This 100% Malmsey is sourced from vineyards in São Jorge on the northern coast of Madeira, planted mostly on volcanic soils. The fruit was hand-harvested and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using natural yeasts. Fermentation was stopped after three days through fortification with 96% neutral grape spirit to preserve the medium-sweet natural sugar levels. The wine aged in seasoned American oak casks under the traditional Canteiro system before bottling.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of honey, beeswax, dried peach, and sweet spices open on the nose, followed by hints of orange peel and toasted nuts. The palate is sweet and concentrated, showing flavors of candied citrus, fig, and hazelnut balanced by a sharp, fresh acidity. The finish is long and crisp, with subtle notes of bitter almond and caramel.
