Domaine Rapet Corton Grand Cru 2021, 750ml
Made from 50-year-old Pinot Noir vines. The Corton hill, located north of Beaune, is the only red Grand Cru in Côte de Beaune.
Corton is produced on two climats: Corton Combes (valleys), Corton Les Chaumes (stony plateau), and La Voie Rosse (referring to ferruginous soil).
The name "Corton" means "Othon's Court," derived from medieval Latin "cortis," indicating a noble property. Corton occupies the south-facing hill slope.
Fermentation lasts 15 days with punch downs, allowing the wine to soak up the richness and color from the grape skins before pressing. The wine ages in 20% new oak barrels.
Tasting Note
This is also cool and airy if more sauvage-inflected with its nose of earth, leather, smoke and a plenitude of floral wisps. There is both fine volume and focused power to the bigger-bodied and muscular flavors that flash fine length on the distinctly austere, tightly wound and very much built-to-age finale.
