Strathclyde 1990, 33 Year Old, Single Grain, Duncan Taylor "The Octave Premium", 700ml
The Strathclyde 1990 is a 33-year-old single grain whisky from the Lowland region, distilled in 1990 and bottled in 2024. This limited release, drawn from sherry octave cask number 6439166, underwent a finish in the smaller cask to enhance its depth and flavor. Bottled at 51% ABV, only 82 bottles were produced, making it a rare and collectible expression from this renowned grain distillery.
Duncan Taylor's The Octave collection showcases whiskies finished in specially crafted octave casks, which are significantly smaller than standard barrels. The reduced cask size increases the interaction between the wood and the spirit, creating unique and intensified flavor profiles.
About the Strathclyde Distillery:
Strathclyde Distillery, founded in 1927 in Glasgow, Scotland, is a major producer of grain whisky for blended Scotch. Using continuous column stills, it produces a light, smooth spirit, primarily from maize and wheat, with malted barley aiding fermentation. Known for its versatility, Strathclyde's whisky forms the base of renowned blends like Ballantine’s and Chivas Regal, owned by parent company Pernod Ricard.
While its focus remains on blending, occasional single grain releases, often aged in sherry or wine casks, showcase its ability to develop complex flavors with caramel, dried fruit, and spice. As one of the few operational grain distilleries in the Lowlands, Strathclyde plays a key role in Scotland's whisky heritage, blending tradition with large-scale production.
