Springbank 1998 Vintage, 700ml

Distilled in 1998 at Springbank Distillery, this lightly peated (around 7–10 ppm) single malt was distilled 2.5 times from floor-malted barley, it has matured for nearly 27 years exclusively in a quartet of Oloroso sherry casks: two refill and two first-fill, imparting profound depth and elegance. Bottled at 48.3% ABV. Limited to 1,500 bottles worldwide, replacing the traditional 25 Year Old in the new annual Vintage Series.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of polished mahogany and antique leather, layered with sticky date loaf, mirabelle plums and sherry-soaked raisins. Toasted walnuts, dried figs and a whisper of coastal brine mingle with gentle peat embers, while prune compote, caramel-drizzled peaches and cinnamon incense emerge with air, evoking a sunlit Campbeltown attic of forgotten sherry treasures.

The palate is opulent and luxuriously oily, opening with dark berry compote and treacle tart from the sherry, balanced by blood orange zest, vanilla fudge and a refined peaty veil. Mid-palate builds with fine tannins, black pepper and graphite minerality, all underpinned by Springbank’s signature oily waxiness.

The finish is exceptionally long and contemplative, fading through sherry sweetness, toasted brioche, savoury walnut and maritime salt laced with herbal gorse and distant smoke.
A majestic debut to the Vintage Series, where Oloroso maturation elevates Springbank’s rugged soul into layered harmony. Sublime now, with 10–20 years of graceful evolution ahead.
