Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength (Batch 27), 700ml

The lightly peated heart of Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, distilled 2.5 times from floor-malted barley (around 7–10 ppm phenols) and matured for 12 years in a bold vatting of 60% ex-bourbon barrels, 35% Oloroso sherry hogsheads and 5% rum barriques for an exotic twist on the classic profile. Bottled at cask strength 55.9% ABV. Released early 2025, limited small-batch production.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of smouldering coastal peat and briny sea kelp, layered with rum-soaked toffee, dried mango, pineapple and Oloroso-driven berry compote. Bourbon vanilla cream and cinnamon incense add depth, while salted caramel fudge, charred orange peel and gorse bloom emerge with air, evoking a misty Campbeltown harbour tinged with tropical intrigue.

The palate is powerful and luxuriously oily, surging with treacle tart and spiced plum from the sherry, balanced by rum-infused banana bread and bourbon’s lemon curd brightness. Mid-palate brings black pepper heat, graphite minerality and a touch of woolly earthiness, building to a crescendo of exotic spice and maritime brine.

The finish is immense and evolving, fading through molasses warmth, toasted coconut, sherry raisin and a lingering peaty trail laced with sea salt and ginger.
