Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 10 Year Old, 700ml
Bruichladdich, a distillery founded in 1881 by William Harvey, stood out from the crowd of peated Islay whiskies by focusing on crafting unpeated expressions.
After almost a century of operation, the distillery closed in 1983, but was resurrected in 2001 by a consortium led by Mark Reynier.
Since then, under the ownership of Rémy Cointreau, Bruichladdich has continued to push boundaries and experiment with diverse spirits, earning its reputation as a pioneer in the industry.
The distillery owns its own maltings, which allows for complete control over the barley selection and malting process, contributing to the unique character of its whiskies.
Bruichladdich offers a diverse portfolio, including unpeated and heavily peated expressions under the Bruichladdich and Port Charlotte labels, and still champions unpeated expressions while highlighting the impact of barley terroir.
The 10 year old Port Charlotte is matured on 65% first fill American whiskey casks, 10% second fill American whiskey casks and 25% second fill French wine casks. Port Charlotte single malts are peated to a heavyweight 40PPM.
Nose: Hints of marine, earthy smoke, with notes of oak, caramel, vanilla, ginger, nutmeg, and clove.
