Daniel Bouju Carafe No. 5, 700ml
Daniel Bouju is a family-owned cognac house established in 1805 in Saint-Preuil, at the center of the Grande Champagne region. Now led by François Bouju, the eighth generation, the estate farms 30 hectares planted primarily with Ugni Blanc. Bouju is known for traditional methods, including distillation on the lees in small pot stills and aging in heavily toasted Limousin oak barrels with coarse grain. Bouju does not use caramel coloring or chill filtration. His cognacs are aged extensively in new oak, which imparts a deep color and pronounced structure, setting them apart from more commercial styles in the region.
Tasting Note:
Carafe No. 5 opens with a rich and layered nose of dried fruits, roasted nuts, and dark spices, followed by an elegant oak and a touch of rancio.
On the palate, it is full-bodied and textured, with flavors of fig, tobacco, and cocoa unfolding gradually, supported by firm tannins and a long, warming finish.
