Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength (Batch 28), 700ml

This is part of the Cask Strength series, a bi-annual limited release from the Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown. Produced using lightly peated malt that is floor-malted on-site and distilled 2.5 times in traditional copper pot stills, the spirit is matured for 12 years. Batch 28 is notable for being matured entirely in 100% bourbon casks, a departure from the sherry-heavy compositions of recent years. The distillery utilizes water from Crosshill Loch and handles all aspects of production within its own facility. This expression is bottled at a natural cask strength of 55.5% without chill-filtration or added coloring.

Tasting Note:

Aroma: Rich malt sweetness opens into mineral notes and a distinct coastal brininess accompanied by a faint wisp of smoke. These are followed by layers of fresh citrus, fruit salad, dried mango, and a touch of dark chocolate.

Palate: Bold and oily with a prominent malt sweetness and maritime sea salt. The flavor profile develops with notes of vanilla, citrus zest, and a soft, earthy peat smoke that provides a balanced complexity.

Finish: The texture is creamy and leads into a finish of lingering gentle peat, cocoa powder, and glazed cherries, accented by salted pretzels and a refined oak spice.
