Macallan 2004 "Speymalt" (2024 release) G&M, 700ml

Distilled in 2004 at The Macallan distillery, this Speyside single malt was matured for 20 years in a single first-fill Oloroso sherry hogshead (cask #22606604) before bottling in 2024. Cask strength, 59.7% ABV. Limited to 331 bottles.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of polished mahogany, sherry-soaked Christmas cake, dark raisins, roasted chestnuts, ginger, cinnamon, damp earth and antique leather, with bitter orange, black treacle and a whisper of hearth smoke emerging over time.

The palate is opulent and layered: fig and date paste lead into espresso-laced dark chocolate, clove-studded orange, toasted walnut and firm sherry wood grip. Mid-palate builds with pepper heat and graphite minerality, balanced by vanilla fudge. The finish is endless, evolving through charred oak, lingering spice and a drying tannic echo.

A tour de force of sherry-driven Macallan maturity, where first-fill hogshead amplifies richness without excess. Explosive yet harmonious now, with a decade-plus of graceful evolution ahead.
