Mount Riley Chardonnay 2023, 750ml
100% Chardonnay sourced from Mount Riley’s Seventeen Valley and St Andrew’s vineyards in Marlborough, planted with B95 and 548 clones on alluvial soils. The grapes were handpicked and whole bunch pressed. Fermentation occurred on full solids using indigenous yeasts, with 80% of the wine fermented in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barriques (25% new) and 20% in stainless steel. Partial malolactic fermentation was allowed for the barrel-fermented portion, and the wine was aged on lees for 9 months with regular stirring.
Tasting Note:
On the nose, it shows ripe stone fruit, citrus peel, and subtle oak spice. The palate is medium-bodied and textured, with fresh acidity, creamy lees influence, and a mineral finish. Overall, it is a balanced and expressive Marlborough Chardonnay shaped by careful site selection, native fermentation, and restrained oak handling.
