Pieropan: A Long-Established Veneto Treasure with an Organic Focus

Pieropan: A Long-Established Veneto Treasure with an Organic Focus

History

Pieropan Winery was founded by Leonildo Pieropan, a town doctor with a passion for wine. In 1901, he bought the first plot of land, now part of the Calvarino vineyard. His sons, Gustavo and Fausto, continued the business with dedication. In 1966, Leonildo Pieropan, the founder's grandson, brought significant changes to the winery after studying oenology and viticulture. He expanded the vineyards, introduced new technologies, and created iconic wines like "Calvarino" and "La Rocca."

Location

The winery is located in Soave, Italy, with vineyards in the Soave Classico and Valpolicella regions. The Soave estate includes a modern winery built in 2015, integrated into the landscape with Vicenza stone. The Valpolicella estate, acquired in the early 2000s, features the Monte Garzon Vineyard and Villa Cipolla Pellegrini.

Winemaking

Pieropan Winery is known for its innovative approach to winemaking. Leonildo Pieropan emphasized the importance of enhancing individual vineyards and creating wines that reflect the relationship between variety, soil, climate, and human effort. The winery produces two symbolic wines: "Calvarino," a white wine from volcanic basalt soil, and "La Rocca," a white wine from limestone soil. The winery practices organic farming, eliminating chemical weeding and converting to organic production.

Aging

The winery has an aging cellar under the orchard at Villa Cipolla Pellegrini for Amarone wine maturation. The wines are crafted with care, reflecting the family's love for the land and tradition. The Pieropan family continues to innovate while preserving their heritage, with Andrea and Dario Pieropan leading the fourth generation.

Palazzo Pullici

The Pieropan family has lived in Palazzo Pullici, a historic building in Soave, for over two centuries. Renovated in the late 80s, it serves as the family residence and the company's headquarters.

Nowadays Pieropan's farms 75 hectares of vines and the wines are exported to 55 countries worldwide.
