The beginning of the 20th century was a time of great global uncertainty. Both the Great War and the Russian Revolution greatly impacted Madeira wine production and sales, followed shortly after by prohibition in the United States.
Over the years, different bottlings of Bual 1920 were released onto the market, and all were unique in their own right – each separate bottling style naturally evolved by heat, humidity, cask size, and location within our Wine Lodge in Funchal.
This 2020 release sets another landmark for Blandy’s as a wine that has aged for 100 years in American oak casks and, as of the 1st of March 2017, in glass demi-johns. Only 1,199 individually numbered bottles of this centennial wine will be released.
Tasting Note:
Nose: it’s complex and very characteristic, it’s fine, intense, reveals a dry fruit bouquet, exotic spices, vanilla, smoked notes mixed with cedar oil and balsams.
Palate: it’s very concentrated and powerful, medium sweet, very balanced and soft, its leaves a very long aftertaste with tobacco notes, exotic woods, cedar oil and wax.
