Rockford "Basket Press" Shiraz 2019, 750ml
The grapes, from mature vines up to 130 years of age are hand-picked from select family owned vineyards located throughout the Barossa and Eden Valley. The wine is hand made using equipment for the turn of the last century. The grapes are hand forked into a 1880’s Bagshaw crushing machine, open fermented for a period of 5 -7 days and then gently basket pressed. Individual vineyard parcels are then aged in American and French hogsheads and season oak vats for 2 years, prior to blending and bottling.
Tasting note:
This wine exhibits a rich and luxurious character, with hints of violet perfume mingling with notes of mahogany, walnut, dark chocolate, and toasted oak. It is full-bodied and well-concentrated, showcasing firm tannins that could benefit from additional aging. The finish is distinguished by coffee and iodine notes, supported by a lingering, intense, silt-like tannic structure.
