Domaine de Belliviere Coteaux du Loir "Le Rouge Gorge" Rouge 2020, 750ml
Rouge Gorge is made from 100% Pineau d'Aunis, with vines ranging from 10 to 50 years old, spread across 14 parcels. These gobelet-trained vines are planted in flinty clay soils over tuffeau (soft limestone) and produce low yields of around 25 hl/ha. The vineyard is certified biodynamic, and the grapes are harvested by hand.
After being 100% destemmed, the berries undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts in old barrels, followed by a maceration period of up to a month with occasional punch downs. The wine is aged for 12 months in used barrels and concrete eggs.
"Rouge Gorge" is named after the red-throated European robins that inhabit the vineyards.
Tasting Note:
Red color with purple reflection. Aromas of undergrowth and leather, spices and pepper. Very typical of a Loire red wine, spicy peppery flavors, light and very present fullness, length on pepperiness and minerality, ripe and light tannins.
