Port Ellen 42 Year Old is a single cask release from G&M Recollection Series #3, which features rare whiskies from closed distilleries. Distilled on January 28, 1981 and bottled on February 6, 2023 at 52.5% ABV, this Islay single malt was matured for 42 years in a refill sherry butt (Cask #290), yielding 181 bottles. It is non-chill filtered and bottled without added colour. Port Ellen distillery ceased production in 1983, and this bottling preserves its coastal and smoky style through extended maturation and careful cask selection.

Tasting Note:

On the nose, the whisky opens with medjool date, ginger snap biscuit, and dark chocolate. The palate is rich and complex, showing peanut brittle, marasca cherry, and subtle bonfire smoke. The finish is long and balanced, with lingering dried fruit and coastal peat. This bottling offers a deep and evocative profile shaped by decades of slow ageing and the distinctive character of a legendary Islay distillery.
