Springbank 12 Year Old Cask Strength (Batch 26), 700ml

The lightly peated heart of Springbank Distillery in Campbeltown, distilled 2.5 times from floor-malted barley (around 7–10 ppm phenols) and matured for 12 years in a vatting of 60% ex-bourbon barrels, 35% Oloroso sherry hogsheads and 5% rum barriques for a bold, exotic edge on the timeless profile. Bottled at cask strength 56.2% ABV. Released November 2024, limited small-batch production.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of coastal peat wisps and salted caramel, layered with rum-kissed pineapple, sherry-soaked dark berries and bourbon vanilla fudge. Cinnamon spice and charred orange peel emerge with air, alongside heather honey and faint gorse florals, evoking a briny Campbeltown pier warmed by tropical sun.

The palate is assertive and luxuriously oily, opening with treacle tart and glazed plums from the sherry, balanced by rum-infused banana and bourbon’s lemon meringue brightness. Mid-palate brings cracked pepper heat, mineral brine and a whisper of woolly earth, building to layers of exotic spice and maritime depth.

The finish is vast and evolving, fading through molasses warmth, toasted coconut, sherry raisin and a lingering peaty thread laced with sea salt and ginger.
A commanding return in the 12 Cask Strength series, where rum casks elevate Springbank’s gritty soul into multifaceted brilliance. Superb now, with 10–15 years of graceful evolution ahead.
