Aultmore Bourbon Cask 10 Year Old "Discovery" G&M, 700ml
"Discovery" Aultmore Bourbon Cask 10 Year Old, (bottled in 2021)
Established in 1896 by Alexander Edward, the Aultmore distillery is near Keith in Speyside. The name "Foggy Moss" reflects the boggy ground and frequent mist that shroud the area due to its unique microclimate.
After Edward's ownership, Aultmore was acquired by John Dewar & Sons in 1923 and has remained part of their portfolio ever since. Today, Bacardi, which purchased Dewar's in 1998, controls the distillery. John Dewar & Sons represents Bacardi's Scotch whisky holdings.
A major industry boom in the early 1970s led to a complete rebuild of the distillery.
Aultmore's spirit is particularly sought after by blenders, known for its uncommon grassy and citrusy freshness, medium body, and peppery aftertaste.
Historically, official Aultmore bottlings were scarce, limited to releases within United Distillers' Flora & Fauna and Rare Malts collections during the 1990s. Independent bottlers like Douglas Laing, Gordon & Macphail, and the Scotch Malt Whisky Society offered the only other options.
Nose: Crisp fruit with wafts of pear and apple, floral tea, and soft citrus.
Palate: Creamy vanilla wafts throughout, with sweet pineapple fritters and soft apricot and gently herbal, zesty undertones.
Finish: A seasoning of pepper prickles the finish, oak and vanilla continues alongside waxy lemons and grassy malt.
