The ‘Private Collection’ features a truly exceptional and unique range of greatly aged single malts from a mixture of celebrated, little-known, and now closed distilleries across Scotland.
St. Magdalene 1982 was matured in a Refill American Hogshead, and bottled from cask #2100 at 54.5% ABV in 2023. Bottled under the Private Collection Series and the Recollection Series #2.
Only 150 hand-blown crystal decanters have been produced.
Also known as the Linlithgow distillery, St Magdalene was established in the mid-eighteenth century. At the turn of the nineteenth century, Provost Adam Dawson, owner and distiller on the adjacent Bonnytoun Farm, purchased the distillery and merged the two together in 1826. renaming it in recognition of the site it occupied – St Magdalene’s Cross.
Nose: Clove-studded orange aromas combine with sweet red apple and a hint of grapefruit. Butterscotch develops alongside subtle cocoa powder and mature oak.
Palate: Sweet, smooth citrus fruit flavours are balanced by subtle black pepper. Poached pear comes to the fore, leading to walnut and subtle marzipan.
Finish: Full and spicy finish with lingering aniseed.
