Tormore 1983, 38 Year Old "Private Collection" G&M, 700ml
The âPrivate Collectionâ features a truly exceptional and unique range of greatly aged single malts from a mixture of celebrated, little-known, and now closed distilleries across Scotland.
The 38 Year Old Tormore was distilled in 1983, matured in a Refilled Bourbon Barrel, and bottled from cask #8025102 at 48.3% ABV in 2022.
Only 108 hand-blown crystal decanters have been produced.
Despite its Victorian futurist style, Tormore distillery was actually founded in 1958, and was the first new distillery to be built in Speyside during the 20th century.
The physical building is about as eye catching as a distillery can be, evoking Jules Verne and Roald Dhal in one go; it was intended to be a âshowpieceâ and the distillery has crisp white buildings with ornate features, a fountain, a curling lake and decorative landscaping.
Nose:Â Citrus aromas lead to toasted malt and soft vanilla. Ripe banana and apple develop with a fresh hedgerow note.
Taste:Â Sweet and smooth, with mango, nectarine and orange marmalade flavours. Delicate floral under tones lead to vanilla custard.
Finish: A medium finish with flavours of pepper and citrus.
