Macallan 1950 "Speymalt" G&M, 700ml
43% 1950 (bottled in 2009)
This extra special cask of whisky, refill sherry butt number 1684, is incredibly rare. Filled with new whiskey in 1950 by John Urquhart of Gordon & MacPhail (G&M) at The Macallan Distillery, and transferred to G&M warehouse in Elgin where it spent almost 60 years maturing. Finally bottled in 2009,ย this whisky is a true collector's item.
The Urquhart family has run G&M for over a century, taking over about 20 years after it started as a grocery store in Elgin in 1895. John Urquhart started as an apprentice in the early 1900s and eventually became senior partner. This happened after the original founders, James Gordon and John MacPhail, retired or passed away. For their special Macallan whiskies, G&M uses the unique label "Speymalt." This label is only used for whiskies from this particular Speyside distillery near Aberlour.
