Kavalan "45th King Car Anniversary Edition" Palo Cortado Sherry Cask, 1.5L

Kavalan Palo Cortado Sherry Cask is a limited edition single malt released in 2024 to celebrate the 45th anniversary of King Car Group, the parent company of Kavalan Distillery. Bottled at 54% ABV, this expression was matured in a rare Palo Cortado sherry cask sourced from Spain’s Sherry Triangle. Only 205 bottles were produced, each presented in a 1500ml cello-shaped decanter topped with a Swarovski crystal, symbolising Taiwan’s Snow Mountain Range. The whisky is non-chill filtered and bottled without added colour, joining Kavalan’s sherry cask collection alongside Oloroso, Fino, Amontillado, Manzanilla, Pedro Ximénez, and Moscatel casks.

Tasting Note:

On the nose, the whisky opens with cocoa powder, citrus, and dried fruits, followed by aromas of pastries, toffee, and cardamom. The palate is full-bodied and smooth, showing nutty flavours, vanilla fruitcake, and orange pound cake, with layers of raisin, toasted biscuit, caramel toffee, and crushed walnut. The finish is rich and lingering, offering a multi-layered profile shaped by the elegance of Amontillado and the depth of Oloroso. This bottling captures the complexity and rarity of Palo Cortado maturation in Kavalan’s tropical climate.
