Hartford Court "Far Coast Vineyard" Chardonnay 2018, 750ml
Far Coast Vineyard is a cool site surrounded by redwood forests, nearly two hours north of the Russian River on a Sonoma Coast mountain ridge. Often referred to as the ‘True Sonoma Coast’ or simply ‘the middle of nowhere,’ it is located just south of Annapolis at an elevation of 800-1000 feet. The well-drained Goldridge sandy loam soils enhance the minerality and focus of the wines produced here. This wine comes from a block planted with Clones 15, Dijon 76, and 809.
All grapes are hand harvested at night and undergo whole cluster pressing. Fermentation occurs with indigenous yeast in French oak barrels, 39% of which are new. The wine is aged for 14 months with weekly lees stirring through malolactic fermentation, and it undergoes no fining and minimal filtration.
Tasting Note:
Far Coast Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of orange zest, yellow apple, dried fruits, and spice. The flavors of tangerine, mandarin orange, and quince are followed by a long textural finish of minerals and delicate fruit.
