Tyrrell's "Lunatiq" Heathcote Shiraz 2018, 750ml
The Heathcote vineyard, planted in 1994, is located on ancient Cambrian soil on the east-facing slopes of Mount Camel in Central Victoria. These soils contribute to the wine's unique structure, with the oldest blocks used for the Lunatiq blend.
About 17% whole bunches were included, while the rest was de-stemmed to retain whole berries. A three-day cold soak was followed by a 14-day fermentation at 23ºC in open-top fermenters, with gentle pump-overs to enhance flavor and color. The wine matured for 14 months in tight-grain French oak barriques (15% new), with the best barrels blended before bottling.
Tasting Note:
Dark, inky purple with a vibrant hue. The nose shows rich dark fruits with the full array of pepper, charcuterie, and a subtle lift of French Oak. The palate has a richness and softness with dark blue berry fruit chocolate and some sweet spice. The tannin from the stalk and oak working well together giving length a silky texture and a fine moreish finish.
