Domaine Thibault Liger Belair Clos Vougeot Grand Cru 2019, 750ml
This 0.75-hectare vineyard, planted in 1948, is part of the Clos-Vougeot appellation, which Thibault considers the best representation of Burgundian fragmentation, as its entire area is divided among 80 owners.
Climat & Soil: The estate's plot is located in the southern part of the appellation, at the corner of the wall separating Echézeaux and Clos-Vougeot. Its uniqueness lies in the length of its rows—200 meters—spanning three different soil types: a stony soil with a high limestone-clay ratio, a soil with small stones and a high proportion of clay, and finally, a finer soil with clays and silts.
The grapes are harvested by hand, with 30% whole clusters used. Fermentation lasts for three weeks with moderate intervention. The wine is aged for 18 to 22 months, with 50% in new barrels.
Tasting Note:
An overtly floral nose with touches of herbal tea is composed by ultra-fresh aromas of dark berries and a hint of warm earth. There is very good size, weight and punch to the relatively large-scaled flavors that flash good power on the delicious yet decidedly austere finish that is also quite firmly structured.
