Domaine Jean Tardy Gevrey Chambertin "Champerrier" V.V. 2019, 750ml
Gevrey-Chambertin “Champerrier” Vieilles Vignes 2019 is made from 100% destemmed Pinot Noir, with 65% whole berries retained, grown on a 0.30-hectare parcel planted in 1958. The vineyard lies on the Brochon side of Gevrey-Chambertin and features shallow clay and silt soils over limestone. Fermentation begins with a seven-day cold soak in stainless steel tanks, followed by indigenous yeast fermentation with minimal punch-downs. The wine is aged for 16 months in oak barrels, 33% of which are new, and is racked once before bottling.
Tasting Note:
The 2019 tightly wound red fruit is delineated and fresh, and a little floral in style, revealing touches of wilted iris. The palate is medium-bodied and grainy in texture. A nicely structured and classically styled Gevrey with touches of dry tobacco toward the tertiary finish. Impressive length courtesy of vines over 65 years old.
