Amrut Peated Single Malt, 700ml
Amrut is a family-owned Indian distillery that produces high-quality single malts.
Founded in 1948, it uses naturally filtered water from the Arkavathy River and sources barley from India and Scotland to experiment with peated and unpeated malts.
They utilize two different-sized pot stills and traditional methods to achieve complex layers of flavor.
Amrut employs a variety of cask types for maturation, including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, ex-rum, and first-fill French oak, resulting in a broad range of expressions.
Amrut Peated Single Malt uses malted barley, peated to around 24 (ppm), and matures in ex-bourbon casks.
Aromas: Unusually dry peat; not dissimilar to peat reek absorbed by an old leather armchair; a hint of citrus, too;
Palate : Despite the nose, the immediate sensation is one of being caressed by molassed sugar and then a ratching up of the peat notes. As they get more forceful, so the experience becomes that little bit drier and spicier, though not without the molasses refusing to give way;
