Lagavulin 16 Year Old, 700ml
Lagavulin Distillery, founded in 1816 by John Johnston, is one of the oldest distilleries on the Isle of Islay.
It is now owned by Diageo and sources its water from Kilburn Burn, which flows through peat bogs, giving the whisky a slightly mineral taste.
Lagavulin exclusively uses heavily peated barley, resulting in a smoky and pronounced flavor profile.
Lagavulin 16 year old matured in refilled American oak ex-bourbon casks. It embodies the essence of Islay single malts with its distinct peaty and maritime character.
Nose: Intensely flavoured, peat smoke with iodine and seaweed and a rich, deep sweetness.
Palate: Dry peat smoke fills the palate with a gentle but strong sweetness, followed by sea and salt with touches of wood.
Finish: A long, elegant peat-filled finish with lots of salt and seaweed.
