Kilkerran "Heavily Peated" Batch 12, 700ml

The peated powerhouse from Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, this non-age-statement annual small-batch release is triple-distilled from floor-malted barley peated to around 45 ppm, then matured in a vatting of 90% ex-bourbon barrels and 10% ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a dynamic smoky-fruity profile. Bottled at cask strength 58.4% ABV. Limited release, bottled April 2025.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of intense coastal peat and bonfire ash, layered with creamy butterscotch, toasted rye, lemon meringue and a whisper of sea fog. As it opens, sherry-driven dried apricot, caramel toffee and gentle cinnamon spice emerge, grounding the smoke in Campbeltown’s maritime earthiness.

The palate is assertive and luxuriously oily, surging with tarry peat, key lime zest and bourbon vanilla sweetness, deepened by sherry-soaked raisins, Iberico ham savouriness and black pepper heat. Mid-palate brings creamy custard and crisp mineral salinity, balanced by a faint grainy edge.

The finish is long and multifaceted, fading through salted caramel, gentle ash, lemon sherbet, honeycomb and a mint-laced peat trail.
