Kilkerran "Heavily Peated" Batch 11, 700ml

The peated powerhouse from Glengyle Distillery in Campbeltown, this non-age-statement annual small-batch release is triple-distilled from floor-malted barley peated to around 45–50 ppm, then matured in a vatting of 90% ex-bourbon barrels and 10% ex-Oloroso sherry casks for a balanced smoky-fruity profile. Bottled at cask strength 57.9% ABV. Limited release, bottled September 2024.

Tasting Note:

Aromas of smouldering campfire embers and coastal peat, layered with lemon meringue, toasted rye, vanilla custard and a hint of sea spray. As it opens, dried apricot, caramel toffee and a touch of cinnamon emerge, adding sherry-driven warmth to the rugged smoke.

The palate is bold and oily, surging with tarry peat, key lime zest and bourbon sweetness, interwoven with sherry-soaked raisins and black pepper spice. Mid-palate brings creamy vanilla and crisp minerality, balanced by a faint grainy edge.

The finish is long and layered, fading through ash, salted caramel and herbal echoes.
A standout in the Heavily Peated series, where bourbon and sherry harmonize with Kilkerran’s vibrant Campbeltown character. Explosive neat yet nuanced with water; superb now, with 5–10 years of evolution ahead.
