Hartford Court "Far Coast Vineyard" Pinot Noir 2013, 1.5L
Far Coast Vineyard is a cool site surrounded by redwood forests, nearly two hours north of the Russian River on a Sonoma Coast mountain ridge. Often referred to as the ‘True Sonoma Coast’ or simply ‘the middle of nowhere,’ it is located just south of Annapolis at an elevation of 800-1000 feet. The well-drained Goldridge sandy loam soils enhance the minerality and focus of the wines produced here. This wine comes from a block planted with Clones 15, Dijon 76, and 809.
Grapes are hand-harvested at night, sorted, cold-soaked, fermented with indigenous yeast, and aged for 15 months in French oak barrels (28% new), with no fining or filtration.
Tasting Note:
Far Coast Vineyard consistently produces one of the boldest Pinot Noir offerings. The 2013 is no exception, with intense cherry, blackberry and cocoa aromas sharing the stage with an elegant green tea component. The mountaintop terroir gives the wine abroad, lush texture followed by black cherry and blackberry fruits. Mocha, Asian spice and silky tannins linger on the palate, giving a persistent finish that is distinctly Far Coast.
