Chateau de Chamirey Mercurey 1er Cru "Les Cinq" 2012, 1.5L
After the exceptional 2010 vintage, the family introduced 'Les Cinq,' a prestigious cuvée that blends the best barrels from five Premier Crus of the Château: Les Ruelles (monopole), En Sazenay, Clos du Roi, Clos l'Évêque, and Champs-Martin.
The winemaking process starts with a 4 to 6-day cold pre-fermentation maceration to enhance phenolic extraction. The grapes are partially destemmed and undergo a 15-day maceration with punch-downs and pump-overs, using natural yeasts for fermentation.
The wine ages 100% in traditional 228-liter Burgundian barrels for 15 months, with about 100% new barrels. It then spends three months in stainless steel tanks before bottling. Only French oak from Allier and Vosges forests is used.
Tasting Note:
Lovely deep garnet colour with purple tints. The nose is powerful with intense dark fruits aromas, spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, white pepper). On the palate the wine is full, powerful and very expressive with a full volume and an integrated wood aging. Nice freshness. A rich, fruity and peppery wine.
