Christian Drouin Experimental "Springbank Angels" 19 Year Old Calvados Pays d'Auge, 700ml
Christian Drouin Experimental "Springbank Angels" 19 Year Old Calvados Pays d'Auge, 700ml is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
A deep and profound 19-year-old Pays d’Auge Calvados, double-distilled from local Normandy apples, aged traditionally in oak before a finishing period of 5 months in eight ex-Springbank whisky casks from Campbeltown (with their subtle peaty character of 10–12 ppm). The tenth release in the Experimental series, celebrating a cask exchange with Springbank. Limited to 2,130 bottles worldwide. Bottled at 50.4% ABV.
Tasting Note:
Aromas of baked apple, poached pear, gentle coastal peat, dried fig, prune, sea salt, toasted hazelnut, and beeswax, with antique oak influence. With time, subtle medicinal and herbal notes emerge, linking Normandy fruit depth to Campbeltown earthiness.
The palate is rich and layered, combining apple brandy concentration, sweet dried fruit, smoky peat embers, and oily citrus peel. The finish is long and elegant, fading through heather smoke, polished leather, and lingering spice, with peat adding complexity without overshadowing the Calvados core.
An ambitious Experimental release, harmonizing aged Calvados with Springbank’s maritime smokiness. Rewarding now, with further integration over 5–10 years.
