Freemark Abbey "Sycamore Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, 750ml

100% sourced from the Sycamore Vineyard in Rutherford on the southern end of the Rutherford Bench against the Mayacamas mountains, with rich clay loam soils that produce small berries with intense concentration. The blend is approximately 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 7% Cabernet Franc. The grapes underwent a cold soak followed by fermentation in stainless steel with extended maceration. The wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak barrels.

Tasting Note:

The 2002 opens with aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark cherry, licorice, graphite, and dark chocolate with notes of cedar, tobacco, and forest floor. The palate is medium to full-bodied with rich dark fruit, velvety texture, integrated tannins, balanced acidity, and a long, complex, harmonious finish showing beautiful maturity while retaining freshness and structure.
